After having my daughter, and even more so after having my son, I was told over and over by many people, for all different reasons, that I should start a blog. For many people, it was for nutritional, holistic, organic, and eco-friendly-hippie-living reasons. For others it was for parenting advice and how I do what I do. More recently it has been for preschool and toddler activity ideas and how-to’s. I’ve always wanted to share what I’ve learned in my short years so far as a parent and my knowledge of what I know best with others, because let’s face it, who wants to listen to someone how knows nothing of what they’re talking about? I also miss the talking part of teaching. I really miss getting to share my passion of math and science to eager (and not so eager) junior high students and I never thought I’d say this, but I miss talking. Before kids, I talked all day long about subjects that I love, sometimes to what it seemed like was walls, but I talked- All-Day-Long.
Finally, after 3 years of being on the fence, and some stern encouragement from a local mom and entrepreneur, I decided to go for it. I want to talk again. I want to talk about what I’ve grown to love and what I never knew I would love after having children. I want to share with you ways to incorporate what I do and how to do it into your lives. Whether big or small, I hope that I can make a difference for you.
With all of these ideas of what to share and how to share it, I was also torn over a name for my blog. My sister-in-law suggested a couple of years ago that I use the name ‘Starting Small’ and I loved it. It was perfect for so many reasons! Firstly, my daughter Breanna was born 2 lbs 8.5oz at 27 weeks and she started small. Secondly, people often don’t know where to start with things and get so overwhelmed that they don’t even try, so why not help them ‘Start Small’? It was set- that’s what it was going to be. Then the more I thought about it, I just couldn’t do it. If you know me, I’ve never been the kind of person to ‘Start Small’. I live it ALL IN, I married a man who lives it ALL IN, and we raise our family ALL IN. The situations that have been thrown at us as a family haven’t allowed us to Start Small either; we’ve had to jump All In and headfirst to survive and to live life in our new normal. I also chose ‘live it ALL IN’ because as I’m learning, our children grow up too quickly and I am so fortunate to get to spend the first years of my children’s lives with them at home. I want to live every second with them ALL IN because I know it won’t last long and I will have a newer normal to adjust to.
So welcome to ‘live it ALL IN’! I’m thrilled to begin this journey. I cannot wait to share with you and learn from you as well.
